# Submit a form response

> Body is `{"answers": {"<field_id>": <value>, ...}}` — one natural-JSON value per field, keyed by the field's `id` (get these from Get Form). Value shape depends on the field's `field_type`:

| field_type | value | |---|---| | short_answer / paragraph / time | string | | number / scale | number | | email | string (validated) | | phone_number | string (digits; punctuation stripped) | | date | `"YYYY-MM-DD"` string | | dropdown / single_choice | string (must match one of the field's options) | | multiple_choice | list of strings (each must match an option) | | contact | `{"first_name","last_name","email","phone"}` — only the parts the field actually collects, see `collects` on the field | | file_upload / payment | **not supported** — 422 `unsupported_field_type` |

Returns `422 form_not_published` / `form_not_accepting_responses` if the form isn't currently open for submissions.
